Giving Back

We believe strongly in minimizing our negative impacts to our surrounding environment and we believe in giving back to our local community. We also believe in the transformative power of education for raising awareness about and initiating action for the natural environment and the challenges it faces. For this reason we are implementing the program Building for the Future, a straightforward and tangible program that helps improve school infrastructure and provide needed school supplies.

We are working with three elementary schools and the local area high school. With the teachers we have identified specific needs and are hoping to raise the funds needed to purchase the required materials for the schools during the next six months. The focus this year is on supplies for the classrooms, - pencils, paper, crayons etc.; small infrastructure like desks and chairs; and sports equipment.

We invite you to help us give back to the future of Santa Teresa. With your help this program can be a success. You can donate specifically to one of the packages below or give a general donation for the program. Talk to our staff to learn more about this program and the schools in the area.

• Providing our staff with regular opportunities to learn about sustainability.
• 90%+ of the staff comes from the local community.

• Local food influence on menu offerings.

• Water and energy management.
• Invitation for guests to re-use towels and linens to save energy and water.
• Encouraging our guests to visit the nearby protected areas that our part of Costa Rica’s national parks system.

Blue Flag Beaches

To recognize communities that respect and take care of the beaches with a strong commitment to ecological preservation, the national water utility, Aqueductos y Alcantarillados, in partnership with the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo began ranking beaches in 1996. Beaches that received a score of 90% or greater Bandera received an Azul Ecológica (ecological blue flag) to fly as a symbol of excellence. The Malpais/Santa Teresa area beaches have proudly flown the blue flag since 2001.
